TD, Samsung partnership to boost IT penetration

The official launch of partnership between Technology Distributions (TD) Limited and Samsung West Africa, has been described as a boost to the penetration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry in the sub-region and particularly in Nigeria.

TD which commenced business in May 1999 as the pioneer bulk distributor in West Africa for HP, Microsoft, APC, and Epson with a vision to build a globally recognized ICT distribution company and become the key driver of technology revolution across Africa.

Speaking at the official launch held in Lagos, the Executive Director, Marketing at TD, Mrs. Chioma Chimere, made this assertion at the weekend.

She also noted that TD has evolved into a world-class company with fully developed structures, processes, corporate governance and controls about 60 per cent of ICT products distribution in West Africa.

Mrs. Chimere who stood in for the Managing Director of TD, Mrs. Chioma Ekeh, said that this partnership between TD and Samsung is an additional cap to the achievement of TD in the distribution market across the subregion.

According to her, launch of TD-Samsung partnership points to the fact that TD’s position as Africa’s number 1 ICT distributor is on the right lane.

In the past decade TD, she noted that the firm has built a reputation sourcing and supplying breakthrough technology through reliable partnerships with Original Equipment Manufacturers and dependable resellers.

The quality and content of the partnerships by TD, she said, have sustained and vindicated the vision of the founding fathers for a bulk mover that would create access to the latest ICT equipment for the development of Africa.

“We have as partners Microsoft, HP, Acer, Toshiba, CISCO, Epson, APC by Schneider, Zinox and Dell, I humbly state that TD has placed every one of them on the IT map of Africa to the envy of their competitors. Today, we proudly bring you Samsung,” she declared in her address to the occasion.

Mrs. Ekeh pointed out that that striking a partnership is a logical and practical step for any business, especially if growth is on your objective list.

“There are key factors we cannot compromise in the pursuit of the right partner. In our deliberations with Samsung, we asked the fundamental questions: Does Samsung meet the partnership needs of TD in relation to the servicing of our customer base? Does Samsung possess the right technology, marketing and personality to consolidate and increase that customer base?” she asked.

Adding that timing of this alliance is another factor to consider right in the interest of most treasured resellers whose success is closely linked to the growth?

Although she noted that the global economic recession has robbed the corporate world of revenue and profitability, and IT being no exception, stressing that Africa has experienced with delight the growth and huge IT growth potentials.

“The continent remains rich in mineral resources and in dire need for the technological tools for self actualization,” she said, underscoring that this is the right continent to turn to under the present circumstances.

Equally speaking, the IT Director for Samsung Electronic West Africa, Mrs. Chioma Iwuchukwu-Nweke, said that Samsung has continued to increase its presence globally with the kind of IT products desirous in the world of today.

She further said that the partnership with TD is not exclusive, but has been entered into to benefit Nigerians.

They were joined during the launch by Mrs.Modupe Adesiyun, Manager (Samsung) at TD and Mrs. Adesuwa  Igho-rere, General Manager, Marketing at TD and Mrs. Folashade Oyelayo, Channel Manager IT, Samsung Electronics West Africa.
