Mobile device manufacturer, Nokia has partnered Sponge, a
mobile marketing on inaugural mobile marketing conference which held in Lagos
recently.
The event tagged ‘Mobilising Your Brand’ was held in Lagos,
bringing together brand and marketing practitioners from the country’s biggest
and best-known brands.
Managing Director, The Sponge Ltd, and co-chairman of the
Mobile Marketing Association, West Africa contact group Mr. Dayo Elegbe said
that the conference was organized with the aim of bringing together the best
minds from within and outside Nigeria to share valuable insights, learnings and
benefits associated with the use of mobile, as part of an integrated marketing
and communications strategy to achieve commercial and brand objectives.
“Nigeria has the largest and fastest growing mobile market
in Africa, with over 90 million mobile subscribers. This is a large pool of
people, which brands should be tapping into, but are not at the moment,
primarily due to the lack of understanding of how to use this channel
effectively, and certain myths that have developed around mobile marketing in
recent years”.
He further highlighted the fact that the conference
coincides with the unveiling of Mobile Marketing Association (MMA) with formal
launch in West Africa in March 2012, reflecting the demand for a localised focus to grow a
sustainable market within the region.
“The mobile device is an important bridge between the online
world and the real world around us, needless to say there is an opportunity
here for smart brands to engage their target audience like never before, many
still don’t know how or where to start, but Sponge is here to help” concluded
Elegbe.
Head of EXD Solutions, Nokia West Africa, Teemu Kiijarv,
said, the confab, as well as other initiatives like it, will hopefully go a
long way in encouraging brands and marketers to think more deeply about
integrating mobile into the marketing mix and engaging their target audience in
an effective way.
The conference attracted other speakers including Austin
Ufomba – Chief Marketing Officer, Coca-Cola Nigeria, Aggrey Maposa - CEO of TNS
RMS West Africa, Lucas Dada - Director Product and Services, Etisalat Nigeria,
Jeremy Makin - Global Head Optism, Alcatel-Lucent, and Alex Meisl - Chairman
