Covenant University Ota and software
company, SAP Africa Limited, have launched a joint Corporate Masters Programme
(CAP) for Master of Engineering in industrial and manufacturing.
SAP, according to its Director,
Education for Africa, Mr. Johann Pretorius, said is a business enterprises
solutions comprising of business solutions, mobile application, in-memory
computer and cloud computer.
The programme, he said, would give
professional development opportunities to students to have access to University
Alliance community network, which has 44 universities, stressing that students
would also have access to state-of-the-art software, career and certifications
opportunities.
He made it known that those offering
the course will have access to existing course materials as well as curriculum
of other universities.
Additionally, they would have access
to latest, rich curriculum database, teaching materials from SAP University
Alliance.
The Masters programme, he said, runs
for two years and for those that offered SAP would have additional
qualification at the end of the course.
Mr. Pretorius noted that SAP was
first launched in 2009 with three universities in Germany and now there are
more SAP educated and certified resources in the market. He also said that the
4.5billion mobile carriers, is really a great platform for SAP to run on.
Earlier in her welcome remarks, the
Vice-Chancellor of Covenant University, Prof. (Mrs) Aize Obayan, expressed
delight over the partnership with SAP University Alliance, and in another deal
with East Caroline University in their Global Understanding Initiative.
She emphasized on the fact that the
institution has been an Autodesk Authorized Training and Certification Center
in Nigeria since 2011.
So, SAP, she said, prides itself as
the world largest enterprise application solution is tailored towards
developing highly qualified graduate with critical skills for the 21st century
workforce.
Prof. Obayan said, aside awarding an
academic degree from Covenant University on completion of the programme, there
would also be award of internationally recognized SAP consultant certificate
from SAP Education.
Highlighting some of the importance
of the programme, Dr. Bola Afolabi, the NNPC, SAP General Manger said it would
produce graduates who would not find it difficult to be in the labour market as
the demand for SAP certified graduates is on the increase, hence reason to
replicate such in Nigeria
Dr. Afolabi affirmed the programme
to be an internationally acclaimed solution which gives a global certification,
that it is also a tool to unleashing the great potentials in Nigeria.
“Do not limit it to engineering
alone” he said advising the school authority and SAP not to limit the course
only to Engineering department alone since it will also be beneficial to other
courses to derive optimum value.
Speaking also, chief executive
officer, ServeConsult Ltd, Mr. Deola Adejuyigbe, who affirmed that leading
organizations in the world run on systems application product, and introduced
the course into the institution’s curriculum to give the students the
opportunity to be part of the force to work towards replicating such in the
country.
