| Shina Badaru, new president JACITAD |
The Joint Action Committee on Information and Communications Technology Awareness
and Development (JACITAD) would be forging new partnerships to reposition the
influential body of Nigerian ICT journalism, according to its newly elected
president and founder, Technology Times, Mr. Shina Badaru.
He said that under the "JACITAD Spring" programme, his administration
would leverage ICT knowledge to foster innovation, job creation and economic
growth across the Nigerian economy.
Following the outcome of the elections held on Tuesday, February 2012 in Lagos,
Mr. Badaru, was elected President of JACITAD to lead the association for the
next two years.
He described the emergence of the new executives as a new dawn that would pave
the way for 'JACITAD Spring'.
“Our vision is to reposition our great organization as a
critical stakeholder in the ICT industry in Nigeria, Africa and beyond. That
journey started in earnest today," he declared during his acceptance
speech.
Badaru also told the large turnout of attendees at the
landmark elections, that the key role JACITAD has come to play is a unifying
platform for the key constituency of ICT Journalism in the country, which has
at no other time in the history come into sharp focus with rising mobile
telephony, upsurge in social media and the Internet and other ICTs.
"Today, ICTs pervade every sector of the Nigerian economy placing
increasingly dynamic roles on the practice and profession of ICT Journalism,"
he said.
Equally, he said that growing Internet usage, mobile telephony, social media
explosion are also opening new vistas that pose key threats to ICT Journalism,
"but at the same time open new windows of opportunity for us as individual
ICT Journalists and specialized ICT Media organizations."
As said by him, current trends in the national and global ICT industries
have now placed an urgent and compelling responsibility on JACITAD to take its
pride of place as a critical stakeholder among the body of stakeholders in the
ICT industry in Nigeria, Africa and beyond.
To realize this vision, he said, JACITAD would be forging new partnerships
across diverse sectors of the economy.
Other officials elected include Mr. Remmy Nweke, Group Executive Editor,

Online, NaijaAgroNet,
as Vice President of JACITAD; Miss Francisca Nnanna, Cyber Africa, as
Secretary-General and Mr. Emeka Aginam of Vanguard Newspapers, as the
Communications Officer.
Others comprised of Mr. Lucas Ajanaku of Compass Newspapers to serve as
Financial Secretary; Mrs. Florence Onuegbu (News Agency of Nigeria)
to serve as Welfare Officer and Mrs. Afolabi Bukola Bridget (National Life)
as Treasurer.
Also, Mr. Kunle Azeez (National Mirror) would serve as the
Assistant Secretary-General; Adline Atili, (Nation) as Assistant Financial
Secretary and Emma Elebeke, (Vanguard Newspapers) as Chief Whip.
