Galaxy Backbone, DHqtrs collaborate on ICT forum

The federal government infrastructure company, the Galaxy Backbone plc is collaborating the Defence Headquarters is (DHtrs) to host an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) forum for defence sector next week Thursday, March 15 at the nation’s capital, Abuja.

Disclosing this, the Managing Director, Galaxy Backbone, Mr. Gerald Ilukwe, said that the Defence Sector ICT forum is a Stakeholders’ Awareness Series (SAS) hosted by his company to stimulate dialogue on how stakeholders in the defence, intelligence and security community could leverage the benefits of Information and Communication Technologies to meet contemporary security challenges.

“The forum is particularly pertinent given the current national security situation and the general acceptance that ICTs will play a vital role in addressing such challenges,” he said.

Ilukwe noted that as Nigeria continue to face challenging and uncertain threats to its national security her defence services, intelligence and security agencies must be prepared to conduct a wide range of operations from conflict prevention through counter-terrorist strategies to international peacekeeping and warfare operations.

To achieve this, he pointed out that information and communications technology (ICT) related planning in defence and national security has to meet extremely diverse needs that revolve around ICT investments and planning, increasing efficiency and streamlining processes.

A press statement endorsed by the Marketing Communications Manager, Mr. Franklyn Eke and made available to ITRealms Online, showed that the theme for the forum is, “Integrated ICT Framework for the Defence Sector: An Imperative for National Security.”

The format of the forum, he further said, would involve the presentation of papers to be followed by panel discussions.

The papers, he said, to be discussed would comprise issues that border on integrating ICT for national security and associated challenges and strategies.

Other areas of interest, he said, would include the role ICT could play in contemporary defence and national security planning.

“A rich blend of international and local resource persons drawn from the military, security agencies and the ICT industry have been carefully selected to ensure rich and robust deliberations,” he said.

The audience, according to him, is expected to be made up of senior officers from the defence services, security agencies, other government ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) and the ICT Industry.

The honourable Minister of Defence has been confirmed as the special guest of honour while the Honourable Minister of Communications Technology would be the guest of honour.
