Speaking
on behalf of the two host organisstion, the Deputy Editor, BusinessWorld
Newspaper, Mr. Abimbola Tooki said that the 3-day Cash-Less Lagos Fair at LTV Event Centre, Agidingbi, Lagos May 9-11, 2012.
He also said that the fair which
theme is on ‘Bringing Hands-on Experience of Alternative Payment Options to
Consumers,’ would afford banks, card companies, telecom companies, and other providers
of alternative payment options a great opportunity to interact with consumers.
He
explained that highlights of the fair would include keynote speech by the
Mallam Lamido Sanusi, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, presentations by
experts on alternative payment options, and raffle draw/promotions by
exhibitors and the organisers.
“It is believed that the challenge
for the cash-less policy is not paucity of alternative payment options any
more, but getting the public to be acquainted with these options and embrace
them too,” he said.
This challenge, according to him,
would be resolved if the barrier between the banks and other alternative
payment providers and the general public is broken.

said, would break the barrier by providing neutral ground for the banks and
other alternative payment solution providers and the general public to meet.
Additionally, the fair would allow banks
and all the alternative payment solution providers the opportunity to showcase
and demonstrate their products\services in the full glare of the general
public.
The fair, he further said, would be
very helpful to participating companies who would receive instant feedback from
the general public based on what they see and touch about the products and
services.
While he said, the public would be
better informed after the fair because they would get all the answers to
questions agitating their minds and then make way for them to embrace these
products and services.
He pointed out that the CBN’s
cash-less policy is basically about reducing drastically the level of cash transactions
in the country and gravitating towards alternative payment modes that make
commercial transactions convenient while reducing the risk of carrying cash.
