Disclosing this to ITRealms in an interview, the Managing Director, Qualcomm West Africa, Mr. Alex Dadson said that actually application is what differentiates devices.
Qualcomm as a future company, he said has to invest in the future of these application developers.
Also he said that its key markets on the continent of Africa are Nigeria and Ghana, which made the strong hold in the West Africa region.
"Today, we need to have local application that solves local problems," he asserted, stressing that some of the trainee developers are graduates who came of school without the required knowledge desired for them to survive in the application development industry.
"So we trained about 30 app developers on argument reality or Vufora by giving them an introduction on this Software Development Kit (SDK) and eventually use it to improve their own apps.
Argument reality, he said is a technology that allows you to use your smartphone and even add value on it.
"It could fetch information on the cloud, so that is augmented reality, and when it gets an update, it informs the user," he said, emphasizing that certainly the training would spur new developers industry.
Qualcomms, he said, has been universally categorised as one of the top companies in chipsets industry and every year, spends about 20 per cent on research and development.
"Our chips are made to ensure power consumption that supports end users and Qualcomms is looking at every aspect of making products better," Dadson said.
According to him, Qualcomm actually want to see smart phones in the hands of everybody, rich and poor, educated and uneducated, men and women, old people and kids.
"Education must be structured to solve problems. These training are hands on," he said.
His expectation is that annually there will be some known app developers coming from Nigeria.
"We want to see two augmented realities coming out of Nigeria and when this happens, we can go out to find out what went wrong within the rest," Dadson said, adding that there will be a sustained strategies.
