Why Nigeria is hosting ICANN’s DNSSEC roadshow - Uduma

Mrs Uduma, NIRA president
President of the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA), Mrs. Mary Uduma has explained why Nigeria is hosting the three-day Domain Name System Security Extension (DNSSEC) in Lagos, the commercial nerve centre of the country.

Speaking in Lagos, she said the event comes in two parts comprising awareness creation for the local internet community and hands-on, especially on Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) cum Computer Security Incident Response Teams (CSIRT).

According to her, the awareness part would engage the local community and raise local interest in DNSSEC adoption.

“We expect to reach decision makers across industries, including registrants, registrars, Internet Service Providers (ISPs), the Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government,” she said.

Additionally, she said, DNSSEC hands-on for techies has been designed to teach the protocol and its deployment, with a focus on the issues raised by a recent survey conducted by NIRA.

The chief operating officer, NIRA, Mr. Ope Odusan said some expected participants at the workshop include MDAs, ISPs, Telcos, Registrars of NIRA, financial Institutions, Institutions of Learning, and the print and electronic media.

He emphasized that participants for the second part of the DNSSEC training are required to come with their laptops that are Wireless Fidelity (WiFi)-enabled and preferably have some exposure to Linux/Unix command line operations.

He enumerated some of the benefits, to include being a platform for networking as there would be discussion sessions to enable stakeholders share their individual and collective thoughts and experiences on the implementation of DNSSEC and internet security, in general.
