NCC ready to license InfraCos, sets August deadline for bids

Apex telecommunication regulator, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has expressed its readiness to license the Infrastructure Companies (InfraCos) with final date for bid submission set for August 4, 2014, reports ITRealms.

The infracos, ITRealms gathered are expected to deploy metropolitan optic fibre infrastructure and associated equipment in Lagos State and North Central (Abuja) Areas on an open access, non discriminatory, price regulated model.

In a widely advertised Public Notice endorsed by the Public Affairs Department of NCC, made available to ITRealms, the Commission invited competent companies to submit tenders for its consideration in the Phase 1 step.

Also, the Commission informed it has examined and considered the open access model as the preferred strategic means for the deployment of optic fibre backbone infrastructure that will bridge the current broadband gaps, enhance development of local content and deliver cost effective services to Nigerian households and businesses.

NCC told ITRealms that potential applicants have until August 4, 2014 to purchase tender documents and submit bids for them to qualify in the process.
