Apex
telecommunication regulator, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC)
has expressed its readiness to license the Infrastructure Companies (InfraCos) with
final date for bid submission set for August 4, 2014, reports ITRealms.
The
infracos, ITRealms gathered are
expected to deploy metropolitan optic fibre infrastructure and associated
equipment in Lagos State and North Central (Abuja) Areas on an open access, non
discriminatory, price regulated model.
In
a widely advertised Public Notice endorsed by the Public Affairs Department of
NCC, made available to ITRealms, the
Commission invited competent companies to submit tenders for its consideration
in the Phase 1 step.
Also,
the Commission informed it has examined and considered the open access model as
the preferred strategic means for the deployment of optic fibre backbone
infrastructure that will bridge the current broadband gaps, enhance development
of local content and deliver cost effective services to Nigerian households and
businesses.
