The Vice Chancellor of the Rivers State University of Science
and Technology (RUST), Prof. Barineme Beke Fakae has thrown more lights on how they
deployed technology in rebuilding the nation’s education sector, just as
embarking on industry action is not an option, reports ITRealms.
Speaking to ITRealms at the on-going GiTEX Technology Week
in Dubai World Trade Center, Prof. Fakae narrated how he used Information and
Communication Technology (ICT) tools to create the needed change needed in the
university.
He told ITRealms that since assumption of office in October
2012, and deployment of student data capturing solution from Cinfores Limited, coupled
with the determination of the state governor, Hon. Rotimi Amechi, who stood
behind him, transforming the university should have been impossible.
According to him, it would have been difficult to
revolunatise the university without the political will which has earned RUST a
commendation from the National University Commission (NUC) among peers.
Prof. Fakae whose institution is the only Nigerian ivory
tower participating actively in this year’s GiTEX at the Nigeria Pavilion, told ITRealms that noted that they are also encouraging other institutions to queue
into the kind of solution RUST deployed to help them reposition and stick to
the education calendar.
For his team at Rivers State University of Science and
Technology (RUST), Prof. Fakae said that going on industry strike is not an
option, hence they have maintained the normal academic calendar.
