NCS says NITMA is unique value addition, sets for 2014 edition



The Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) has described its National Information Technology Merit Awards (NITMA) as a unique value addition to the essence of NCS promotion, just as they are set to host the 2014 edition of NITMA, reports DigitalSENSE Business News.

Speaking to DigitalSENSE Business News in Lagos, today, NCS President, Prof David Adewumi said that  NITMA reinforces the unique values NCS promotes by combining this prestigious long-standing awards ceremony with unparalleled networking opportunities in a highly celebratory environment that will include IT professionals, innovators, researchers and entrepreneurs, as well as policy and decision makers in the private and public sectors of the economy. 

He also told DigitalSENSE Business News that NITMA is a credible event that is forward looking and important in promoting the long term sustainability of the IT sector and developing Nigeria’s knowledge society, which in essence defines the responsibility of Nigeria Computer Society. 

According to him, this year NITMA, an annual award ceremony would take place at the Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON) Centre Onikan Lagos on Friday November 14, 2014.

Prof. Adewumi, who is also the Dean College of Science and Information Technology, National Open University, (NOUN), pointed out to DigitalSENSE Business News that NCS is made up of all Information Technology professionals, interest groups and stakeholders in Nigeria.

NCS is the national platform for the advancement of Information Technology sciences and practices in Nigeria and is committed to shaping the future of IT, supporting people who make IT work and employing IT to drive positive change in the society

DigitalSENSE Business News recalled that NITMA is an annual event of Nigeria computer Society since 2009, which honours and rewards excellence and outstanding contributions in the Nigeria’s Information Technology Industry. 

“It is an event to honour those who have made a giant stride and significant impact in expanding the frontiers of Information Technology in Nigeria. It is a night of awards to celebrate the best of Nigerian Information Technology creativity and innovation that has fundamentally changed, and is still changing the Nigerian nation. Award winners are recognised for being inspiring symbols of the IT community,” he said.

Additionally, he said, the awards categories are based on IT specialisation, NCS standards and global best practices. 

These, NCS president, includes awards for the distinguished IT Personality of the Year Award; which  is already generating immense interest within IT community as the most prestigious IT award. 

Also attracting serious attention, he told  is DigitalSENSE Business News Professional fellowships that will be conferred on deserving practitioners. 

Yet, other category of award comprise the Special Recognition Awards that will be given to individuals and organizations who have been most consistent over time in moving the IT industry and profession forward. Just as the Outstanding individuals in society  will be honoured with  Honorary Fellowship awards.
