The Chief
Operating Officer, SWIFT Networks Limited, Mr. Chukwuma Okoye has confirmed to ITRealms that Swift Networks would
migrate all its Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) by
early 2015.
ITRealms gathered known to its
customers, especially in the Lagos State axis, saying that the decision of the
management to migrate all existing WIMAX customers to its new network is based
on the Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology.
He also said
that the benefit to customers will be a free upgrade to a much faster and more
efficient network for better services
“For us at
Swift, we will refarm our existing 20MHz frequency in the 3.5GHz spectrum band,
together with the additional 15MHz (total of 35MHz) we gained from the
acquisition of Monarch Communications Ltd., to the spectrally more efficient
LTE technology, thereby generating more capacity per MHz, and improving our
cost efficiency and sustainability,” Okoye told ITRealms.
According to
him in a letter to customers dated October 27, 2014 sighted by ITRealms, Swift would be able to
decongest the existing 4G LTE and 4G WiMAX networks in high demand locations
like Ikeja, Victoria Island, Ikoyi, Surulere, Ilupeju, Lekki, Apapa, to name a
few, thereby significantly improving your experience on our network.
He assured ITRealms that once this additional
spectrum is deployed, Swift would swap out all the current 4G WiMAX modems to
the faster and more efficient 4G LTE modems Free-of-charge (F.O.C). Stressing
that closer to this time, Swift will formally inform customers once again as to
how they would go about exchanging their 4G WiMAX modem.
In the
interim, ITRealms gathered that Swift
is offering all existing 4G WiMAX customers a 50 per cent instant discount on
any data used between 7pm and 7am every day.
For
instance, Okoye cited that a customer on the 4G WiMAX service plan, SWIFT Basic
Promo, with subscription of N7,000 and data limit of 7Gigabytes (GB), could
decide to use the service only during 7pm and 7am daily, will now be able to
use up to 14GB of data instead of 7GB, since he uses our service only during
the period (7pm to 7am) when the charge rate is 50 per cent lower.
Also, he
cited that if the same customer, decides to use Swift service only outside of
the instant discount period of 7pm to 7am daily, then he would still receive
only 7GB of data.
Additionally,
he said, if the same customer decides to use Swift service half of the time
outside of the instant discount period and the other half of the time during
the instant discount period, then he would be able to use up to 10.5GB of data
instead of 7GB since the instant 50 per cent discount will apply only to half
of his data usage
