Saraki swears-in Lawan, Akume … as Remi Tinubu snubs him

... Senate adjourns to June 23

The two most favored candidates of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Senator Ahmad Lawan and Senator George Akume, for the post of the Senate President and deputy, respectively, were this morning of Wednesday, sworn-in along others who missed out in the inauguration yesterday at the commencement of session by Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, reports ITRealms. Even as Senate adjourned till June 23, 2015.

This is coming as some members of the APC Senators walked out of the Upper Chamber after Senator Bernabas Gemade motion to revisit alleged defranchising of some of the Senators, especially of the APC extraction during the election of Senate Leadership, yesterday, Tuesday.

According to Gemade, President Mohammadu Buhari had written the Clerk of the Senate to delay the swearing-in ceremony for a few hours to enable them, APC Senators attend to his summon which will pave way for them to harmonise their positions before the elections in the Senate.

Unfortunately, he said that they were dazed to notice that while they were at the International Conference Centre (ICC) Abuja, it was being televised that election of the senate leadership was ongoing.

This, he said, amounts to disrespect of the office of Mr. President and invited Senate President to revisit the matter, which was however, over-ruled, thus some of them staged a walk-out.

Meanwhile, ITRealms gathered that Senator Oluremi Tinubu snubbed the newly elected Senate President, Saraki by refusing to exchange pleasantry with him after she was sworn-in.

Senator Tinubu, ITRealms recall is the wife of national leader of APC, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

ITRealms further gathered that Mrs. Tinubu’s action was not farfetched but not unconnected to her inability to accept or acknowledge Saraki as Senate President.

In another development, the Senate has adjourned till June 23 by 10am, following a motion moved by deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and seconded by Senator Yerima.
