Nigerian editors commend FG on fight against corruption

The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) has commended the fight against corruption embarked upon by the Federal Government under the President Muhammadu Buhari, reports DigitalSENSE Business News.

NGE in a communique issued by its Standing Committee at the end of a two-day meeting in Sokoto, Sokoto State, endorsed by the Secretary-General, Ms Victoria Ibanga and acting president, Malam Garba Deen Mohammad, noted especially the efforts at recovering the country’s stolen money that is mostly stashed abroad.

“It advises that these efforts should be sustained, but insists that rule of law should be strictly adhered to,” NGE said.

In a seven-point communique, NGE expressed worry over the instability of the exchange rate of the Naira and urged the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to formulate and implement policy measures geared towards stabilising the exchange rate in order to restore confidence in the local currency and in the economy as a whole.

The Guild while deploring the rising wave of crime in the country, mostly armed robbery, tasked relevant security agencies to rise to the occasion to safeguard lives and property.

They also asked the Federal Government to prioritize job creation to curtail the rising unemployment in the country.

NGE equally noted with concern the hardship being experienced by some journalists in the country due to irregular remuneration and poor condition of service and urged media owners to urgently address these issues.

Further, the Standing Committee unanimously expresses confidence in the Acting President, Malam Garba Deen Mohammad and pledges to ensure a seamless transition in line with the tradition of continuity which the Guild is known for.

Just as they expressed gratitude to the government and good people of Sokoto State for hospitality extended to the members of the Standing Committee during their two-day meeting in the state.
