MobiTutor, the mobile devices technology giant and Airtel, the number one
Telecommunications service provider in Nigeria have unveiled SmartTrybe Junior,
an innovative educational e-book mobile device, ITRealms
report.
The Managing Director, MobiTutor Systems, Barry Taylor,
said the partnership recognized the fact that education should be fun and that
is why the software is interlaced with educational materials, videos and other
applications so that the children could study and still entertain themselves.
At the launch which took place, Tuesday, at Shoprite in
Victoria Island, Lagos, Taylor said SmartTrybe software is restricted to only educational
sites, adding that even though it runs on any android device, it
automatically blocks all access to
social media platform, ITRealms learnt.
“It can be downloaded on any smart phone, most
Blackberries, android can use it and it has features for the parent to access
it and know how the child is studying,” Taylor said
“The partnership is unique in the sense that there are
limited places where you can access e-book in Nigeria and this is what
MobiTutor guarantees and the distribution question, which Airtel brings to the
table. The partnership has ensured strong security system so that the children
do not break into the blacklisted sites as MobiTutor in partnership with Airtel
are working with the best technology firms across the world,” Taylor added.
According to him the software is designed for those in
primary 1 up to SS classes, saying that it was not meant to replace the teacher
but rather designed to further develop,
enhance and articulate questions which the teacher would help the pupil to
answer, adding that there are preloaded thousands of questions from
knowledgeable professionals for the benefit of the child. He said that
Nigerians are among the highest smartphone users in the world even as he stated
that the partnership will last for a long time.
SmartTrybe Junior, ITRealms gathered,
is an e-library with over 206 e-textbooks by Evans Publishers and over 50,000
flash cards for the lads to practice with, 36,000 practice test questions and
answers, and over 22,000 mock exams. The device also comes with data plan of
N100 a day, N600 a week and N1500 monthly data plan even as the pupil has
opportunity to enjoy 10 per cent of every Airtel recharge made by the parent.
