The Lagos State government has said that both buyers and
sellers on traffic may be heading to jail, reports ITRealms.
The state governor, Mr. Akin Ambode, while speaking on
Television Continental (TV-C) monitored in Lagos, Friday, said that the laws on
Street Trading in Lagos State will be strictly enforced from July 1, 2016.
“_Both Seller and Buyer are equally guilty and the penalty
is N90,000 or 6 months imprisonment or both. Please note and abstain from
buying from Street Hawkers,” he said.
The strict implementation of this law was not unconnected to
the fracas that took place on Wednesday at Maryland, Lagos following the
killing of hawker in effort to cross the Ikorodu-Ikeja-Ojota Road, which
resulted in shattering of a Lagos State Government Bus (LAGBUS) which left some
Lagosians injured.
