A Magistrate Court in Lagos, at the weekend remanded two men
in prison for assault on men of the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC), reports
ITRealms.
The Sector Commander, Lagos State Sector Command Corps
Commander, Mr. Hyginus Omeje, disclosed this to ITRealms, saying that the two
men occasioned the assault to Corp marshals while performing their duty in
Lagos on Sunday, July 3, 2016.
He also said that in arraigning the assaulters on Friday,
July 8, 2016, in a suit No. SL/89/2016 titled Commissioner of Police versus
Nwandu Onyeka, male, 32 and Okechuckwu Jackson, male 35, were arraigned before Magistrate
A.A. Famobiwo of Magistrate Court 3, Surulere, Lagos.
The Sector Commander in a press release endorsed by the acting
sector public education officer and deputy route commander, Bisi Sonusi, said
the two and others still at large attacked and seriously injured FRSC Officials
while on their legitimate duties at Akinhanmi Street, Surulere, Lagos.
The accused are being prosecuted for three count charges of
conspiracy, assault and obstruction, offences contrary to Sections 172 and 117
of the Criminal laws of Lagos State. They pleaded not guilty and were granted
bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties each in like sum.
The case was adjourned till July 18, 2016 for mention, but the
accused were ordered for remand in prison by the court until they meet bail
conditions.
