A4AI, Paradigm partner on Internet Freedom Festival 2017

 The Alliance for Affordable Internet (A4AI) is partnering with the Paradigm Initiative on a two-day 2017 Internet Freedom Festival, slated for Lagos, reports ITRealms.

The Africa Regional Coordinator, Alliance for Affordable Internet (A4AI), Onica Makwakwa, disclosed this recently to ITRealms, saying that the A4AI-Nigeria coalition advocates for policy and regulatory reform would use the opportunity have a sideline meeting.

The coalition has four priority areas including, infrastructure sharing and open access, spectrum, consumer awareness and pricing transparency, and taxation and financing. 

According to her, they are excited that the next A4AI-Nigeria coalition meeting has been scheduled to hold between April 26 and 27 2017 at Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja Lagos.

“We are pleased hold the next A4AI-Nigeria coalition meeting on "Day 0" of the Internet Freedom Festival 2017 (#IFF2017), an annual event hosted by Paradigm Initiative focused on trends and key issues for digital rights in Africa,” she said.

At the meeting, she said, A4AI-Nigeria coordinators and working group champions will review their progress on the 2017 work plans so far and highlight opportunities for coalition members to contribute to the outputs.

The meeting, she said, is open to all stakeholders committed to promoting policy and regulatory reform to make affordable internet possible in Nigeria.

Meanwhile over 30 countries have confirmed participation at the 2017 Internet Freedom Forum (IFF), holding in Lagos, reports ITRealms

The 2017 edition is organised by the Paradigm Initiative Nigeria (PIN), and has been scheduled between 25 and 27 April, 2017 at the Sheraton Hotel, Lagos, Nigeria.

The Executive Director of Paradigm Initiative, Mr. ‘Gbenga Sesan, noted that the forum which has participants registered from over 30 countries will bring together stakeholders working on digital rights in Africa including the academia, civil society representatives, media, technology companies, government agencies and active citizens.

Sesan equally said that at IFF 2017, participants would engage in important conversations on how to safeguard the digital rights and freedoms of citizens in Africa and beyond.
