President Muhammadu Buhari has been named the new chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), reports ITRealms.
With this development, President Buhari on Tuesday replaced the Togolese president, Faire Gnassigbe.
He was named the new chairman at the end of the commission's meeting in Togo, Tuesday..
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu confirmed the emergence in a telephone chat.
For him, "He did not ask for it, they just gave it to him.”
But ECOWAS observers said invariably its the turn of Nigeria to assume the office based on ECOWAS Charter.
