REVEALED! Why NLC, affiliates suspended total strike - ITREALMS

The Nigeria Labour and affiliated labour organisations including Trade Union Congress (TUC) has suspended the total strike planned to commenced today, Tuesday country wide, over the N30,000 minimum wages, reports ITREALMS.

The suspension, ITREALMS gathered followed positive and firm commitment extracted from the meeting of the Tripartite Committee on the National Minimum Wage late Monday, November 5, 2018.

Consequently, ITREALMS reports that the committee signed the final report recommending N30,000 as the new national minimum wage and the willingness of President Muhammadu Buhari to avert the total strike and receive the committee’s report later today, Tuesday, November 6, which has been scheduled at 4:15 pm.

Confirming this, the General Secretary of NLC, in a press statement signed by Peter I. Ozo-Eson, urged members to note “that there are still several bridges to cross before the new Minimum Wage becomes law. It is our collective commitment and dedication that has made the progress so far possible.

“We all need to stand ready in a state of full mobilization in case future action becomes necessary to push for the timely enactment and implementation of the new Minimum Wage.”

He further saluted members’ commitment while urging their solidarity forever.
