Disclosing this to ITREALMS, Project Coordinator on SID 2019, Hilary Damissah said that the bottomline is to unite major stakeholders and create a platform for robust engagements towards raising awareness on the issues that surround internet usage, with the aim of preventing the misuse of the internet, and the promotion of responsible digital citizens.
“We hope that SID 2019 will better equip young people to take more responsibility of their online lives, and harness the positive power of the internet for personal development and societal good,” he said.
Damissah also told ITREALMS that half of everyone on earth is today online, hence safety has becomes a concern.
“Moreso because any data we input online can be instantly stored, intercepted, and weaponized against us by others,” he said, stressing that how to protect kids from the dark side of the cyberspace is among the issues to be discussed at this year event, insisting that the coming generation must learn to deal with these issues.
Further, he said, this year's Safer Internet Day (SID) would focus on "Together for a better internet", is a call to action for all stakeholders to join together and play their part in creating a better internet for everyone, and especially for younger users.
