Cry my beloved 'old Daily Times' - ITREALMS

ForTheRecords@ITREALMS:
Dear 'old Daily Times'

You would have been 94 years old today (May 1 2019) as a company and 93 as a Newspaper.

At your height, you were a conglomerate with properties staggered all over Nigeria and world metropoles. You were the first of any such Newspaper chain in this parts to be quoted on the Stock Exchange.

In short the building housing the Stock exchange was yours. Your daily reported the Nigeria's daily wahala and chronicled history in a hurry. Your Lagos weekend on Friday began the hilarious excitement for all. Your Sunday was a must menu for the Sunday table.

What of the rest on the stable: West Africa magazine, Woman's World, Times International, Spear, Poise, Home Studies, Evening Times, etc. In fact,

you were a beacon of light to Nigeria's robust journalism. Now, how are the mighty fallen. Tell it not on the streets but ask the Bureau of Private Enterprise (BPE) herein referred to as the undertaker.

Today, I weep for you my paper. How can I forget you. You helped me cut my journalistic tooth. CONCORD was birthed in your corridor; so also THE GUARDIAN, PUNCH, VANGUARD have your signatures. What about The CHAMPION generations of NEWSWATCH? TELL?

My Times; my Times; my old good Times where I was an indigene!

Daily Times June 1,1925; established as a company. June 1, 1926; the 1st copy of Daily Times was produced.
