The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has
confirmed a violent protest by members of the El-Zakzakky Group in some
parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), reports ITREALMS.
Confirming this to ITREALMS, the Deputy Commissioner of Police
(DCP) and Force Public Relations Officer at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, Mr.
Frank Mba noted that there the protest has been violent.
Particularly, he said, the
Central Business District and the Three Arms Zone were mostly affected.
“The Police are taking adequate measures to bring the situation
under control,” he said.
Mba further said that citizens should
remain calm and avoid the affected areas in the interim.
“The Police will keep the public abreast with further development,”
he assured.
Meanwhile, some two journalists have been reportedly injured during the protest. As at the time of going to press, one journalist each from Channels TV and TVC were suspected to have been injured and currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
