Fr. Paul Offu killing: Catholic priests protest in Enugu - ITREALMS

Catholic priests and religious of Enugu Diocese, on Friday protested the killing of a Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. Paul Offu, yesterday at Awgu, Enugu State by Fulani herdsmen along Ihe-Agbudu Road in Awgu Local Government Area of the State, reports ITREALMS.

Fr. Offu, 
ITREALMS gathered was reportedly killed by Fulani herdsmen on his way back from a burial in Ihe and who went to see his friend at Agbudu in Awgu-Enugu State and was shot on his way.

The deceased clergy, 
ITREALMS also gathered, was until his death, the Parish Priest of St. James Greater Catholic Church, Ugbawka in Nkanu-East Local Government Area (LGA) of Enugu State.

ITREALMS reports that on Friday, hundreds of Catholic priests and religious staged a protest to denounce the killing of their colleague, Reverend Fr. Paul Offu, on Thursday night.

The angry Catholic priests matched to the Government House, brandishing placards with various inscriptions like “enough is enough”, “government should rise to defend Nigerians”, ”Fulani Herdsmen should go” to name a few.

Also, 
ITREALMS gathered that the protesting religious matched through the major streets in the state capital to the police headquarters, chanting “God save Enugu people from murderous Fulani herdsmen”.

Confirming this, the Catholic Diocese of Enugu said that tragedy strikes again in Enugu diocese with the killing of Rev. Fr. Paul Offu who was shot dead on the evening of August 1, 2019 by some hoodlums suspected to be the notorious and murderous Fulani herdsmen, along Ihe-Agbudu Road in Awgu LGA, hailed from Okpatu in Udi LGA of Enugu State and until his death, was the parish priest of St. James the Greater Parish, Ugbawka.

ITREALMS from the diocese read.
