Viral: Abba Kyari undertaker disposes PPE outside Gudu Cemetery - ITREALMS

Nigeria’s social media space has been agog for the wrong thing with the discovery of one of the undertakers in the burial rites of former Chief of Staff to Mr. President, Malam Abba Kyari disposing his used Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) outside the Gudu Cemetery, reports ITREALMS.

This is coming as Nigerians have called for total self-isolation of all those present at the Gudu Cemetery to avoid further spread.
An undertaker is a person whose prepares dead bodies for burial or cremation and or made arrangements for funerals. While PPE is protective clothing, helmets, goggles, or other garments or equipment designed to protect the wearer's body from injury or infection. The hazards addressed by protective equipment include physical, electrical, heat, chemicals, biohazards, and airborne particulate matter.

Gudu Cemetery,
ITREALMS gathered, is located at Aderemi Adesoji Street, in the Federal Captial Territory (FCT) Abuja, has two sections, namely the Gudu Cemetery for Muslim and Christian respectively.

In a viral video also sighted by
ITREALMS, a certain member of the undertakers, alleged to be a staff of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) for the funeral arrangements of former Chief of Staff was seen beside apparently his Nissan car outside the Gudu Cemetery fence wall, removing his Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Before getting to his car, he had removed the face mask and headgear as well as hand gloves.

The fellow, who dressed in a brown caftan, is a well-built man of over 40 years with metallic black Nissan and later drove off.
ITREALMS equally gathered from health experts that if the undertaker was to be NCDC staff, he should have come and left the cemetery with the ambulance.

Also commenting, a social commentator, Barr. Rev. Pichi Onyekwere, noted it was obvious from the footage that one of Kyari burial attendants carelessly disposed his PPE gear worn for internment of late Mallam Abba Kyari.

As said by him, the man may not have known better on how to dispose such gear; as his background and training remain unknown, but stressed that its "NCDC's fault for not following up immediately with all who participated officially in the burial for debriefing and decontamination."
