Iyiora-Anam denies installing 10-yr-old boy as Igwe, warns trouble makers - ITREALMS

ITREALMS ... making leadership SENSE with digital news!

The President-General of the Iyiora-Anam General Assembly, Mr. Onyekwe, Albert Ude has refuted a news making round that they now have a 10-year old Akuebisi, as Igwe of the town, describing it as malicious, reports
ITREALMS.

A press statement available to ITREALMS, Mr. Onyekwe explained that the Igweship of Iyiora-Anam Kingdom is not hereditary but based on the constitution of the town.
ITREALMS gathered, that in the post(s) making round the various social media, the report had it that "king Akuebisi Okonkwo was crowned king of Iyiora Anam Kingdom in Anambra West Local Govt Area of Anambra State, making him the youngest King in Anambra".

The report went on to narrate that "the boy ascended the throne after the last ofala of his late father, His Royal Highness, Igwe Onyeachonam Okonkwo, the Olame 1 of Iyiora Anam. The father is said to have been the youngest king when he ascended the throne and ruled throughout his life before the son inherited it."

He pointed out that the community has not yet elected or appointed any person let alone 10 years old boy to her traditional stool and described the news making around as totally false.

Onyekwe said that Iyiora-Anam, a community in the Anambra West Local Government Area of Anambra State, has a constitution entitled "The Constitution of Iyiora Anam General Assembly" which provided the modalities for ascension to its traditional stool among others.

According to him, for instance, Section 16(Sub-Sec a(i) of the Constitution states inter alia, "The Traditional Ruler shall be selected/elected by a ten man screening/selection committee appointed by the General Assembly ..."

Sub-Sec a(ii) states, "The position of Traditional Ruler is not hereditary; rather it shall rotate among the five kindreds in Iyiora.

Sub-Sec a(iii) has it that "The selection shall be based on qualification and capability. No kindred shall take a second turn until the position/stool rotates round the five kindreds"

Sub-Section b. "Qualifications: for a person to be selected or elected a traditional ruler, he shall ...
(iii) Possess a minimum of Senior School Certificate or it's equivalent.
(iv) Not be less than forty years old.
... (vi) Be a fully fledged 'Nze-na-Ozo' title holder, a recognized Chief conferred on him by a Traditional Ruler or an elder in the church.
(vii) Be a married person with household. etc."

The PG, therefore urged the public especially the government of Anambra State and good people of Iyiora-Anam to disregard the post which is the handwork of mischief makers willing to go such irresponsible extent in an attempt to dishonour the revered traditional institution.

"We hereby warn any person(s) or groups associated with this to desist from this unfounded post," he warned.
