The two Non-Teaching Staff Unions, the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and Non-Academic Staff Union of Allied and Education Institutions (NASU) have directed their members to down tools from midnight, Friday, February 5, reports ITREALMS.
ITREALMS gathered that the purpose of IPPIS project was to procure, implement and integrate solution that would “improve the effectiveness and efficiency in transactional services” as well as enhance the confidence in payroll costs and budgeting with bottom-line being to greatly improve management reporting and information.
ITREALMS gathered that a circular to universities branches and signed by NASU General Secretary, Peters Adeyemi and SSANU President, Mohammed Haruna, directed workers to stay away from work after a meeting with government on Tuesday, February 2 failed to address their demands.
Also, ITREALMS gathered, that SSANU and NASU have demanded their members are expunged from Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).
The unions have also called for payment of benefits to retired members as well as increased funding for state universities.
They have also asked for fairness in the sharing formula of N40 billion earn academic allowance approved for all four university-based unions.
The workers argued that government has approved 80% for Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, and 20% for Non-Teaching Staff Unions of SSANU, NASU, and NAAT.
ASUU suspended a nine months long strike last December after government removed them from IPPIS and approved N40 billion earned allowance and N70 billion universities revitalisation fund.
