COVID-19 vaccines: FG receives 300,000 doses from MTN - ITREALMS

The Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) has confirmed receipt of 300,000 doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines from telecom giant, MTN Group, reports ITREALMS.

This is coming as official revealed to ITREALMS that MTN has donated some 7 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccines to African countries.

Confirming the receipt of 300,000 doses, the Chairman, Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha, while speaking at its weekly briefing, on Monday, said the PTF received the vaccines on Sunday.

“Yesterday, Sunday, 21st March 2021, the PTF received 300,000 doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines from MTN Nigeria,” he declared.

“This is acknowledged with thanks as we encourage other partners to contribute towards the fight against COVID-19,” he said.

ITREALMS gathered that with donation of 7 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccines to African countries, Nigeria is expected to receive about 1.4 million doses by the end of March 2021.

ITREALMS recalls that Nigeria received 3.94 million doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines in early March, and has commenced vaccination starting with healthcare workers among other frontline workers including security agencies.
