Motherhood is selfless career says Fr Ebido - ITREALMS

Lenten Sermon@ITREALMS ... making leadership SENSE with digital news!
Thursday, Fourth Week of Lent B (March 18, 2021)

Your Daily BlessingMay God grant you the grace of a 'purpose driven life.' Amen.

Read Ex 32:7-14; John 5:31-47; pray Psalm 106[105].

NARRATION: I want to thank an anonymous person that sent credit to my phone, helping me to keep sending these reflections free to so many. One of my readers also sent me this picture of a mother hen that got burnt to death protecting her eggs.

It could have ran away as fire rages around her but she could not abandon her eggs! It brought tears to my eyes. It was meant to celebrate mothers all over the world who do almost the same thing: literally giving up their lives, many abandoning their careers or life ambitions, in order to raise kids, some of whom end up putting them through hell and back!

But that is what it means to have ‘PURPOSE’ in life as distinct from a life of AMBITION. Someone distinguished them thus: “purpose is the reason for which something exists or is done, made, used; ambition is an earnest desire for some type of achievement or distinction: power, honor, fame or wealth and the willingness to strive for its attainment.”

Like Jeremiah (1:5), we are born with purpose (though it needs to be discovered), but ambition develops after birth and depends on our nurturing environment. Children of God need to live out their purpose and not just chase after ambitions.

Moses was a man who discovered his ‘purpose’ after a life chasing after ambitions. That is why he would not be swayed by ambitions to power or fame implied in today’s first reading. In that first reading, God tested him: “Let my wrath blaze and consume these people… but of you I will make a great nation.” But Moses knowing that his purpose was to lead these same people out of bondage would not take the bait of ambition.

Most of us would have said, “well, if that is what you want to do, I am all for it! Smoke all of them stubborn people!” It is important to discover your life purpose. It will definitely change your perspectives and your life course, but it will undoubtedly bring you peace and quicker fulfillment of your destiny.

PRAYER: Father, you knit me together in my mother’s womb and destined me for something only me could achieve. Align my thoughts, and will towards my life’s purpose, and its fulfillment. Amen
