Some three former presidents of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) have charted a new path for the society looking into its future, reports ITREALMS.
The trio of Dr. Chris Nwannenna, Prof. Charles Uwadia and Sir Ademola Aladekomo made their contributions on the theme, “NCS: Challenges and Future Direction” at a webinar hosted by the Education Committee of the society, last weekend.
They also applauded the incumbent President, Prof. Adesina Sodiya for rallying them to chart future path for the society.
For Dr. Nwannenna, it takes good foresight and interests of the society at heart for a new path and height to emerge.
Nwannenna called for increased collaboration between NCS and other relevant players in the nation’s economy, stressing that Information Technology (IT) has permeated every sector.
This, he said, should be explored for the impact of NCS to be felt for the betterment of the society and Nigerian nation.
“We should engage more with more institutions and organisations for partnerships because It permeates every sector. Therefore, NCS’ advisories and professional assistance are needed across the board. Let’s expand our tentacles,” Nwannenna said.
Further, he called for fundraising to ensure the soonest completion of the NCS national secretariat complex from presumed friends across government agencies and corporate organisations.
In his contribution, Prof. Charles Uwadia, who is the incumbent President/Chairman-in-Council of the Computer Professionals (Registration Council) of Nigeria (CPN), noted that Prof. Sodiya led National Executive Council has demonstrated resolve to reposition the society to be relevant in the digital economy ecosystem.
He project that with a membership base below 50,000, NCS should strive to reach 1,000,000 memberships in the next few years.
“NCS remains relevant in every facet of our national development, especially as it relates to IT development. Therefore, we have to enhance the membership base. First, let us start with stronger State Chapters and formidable expert groups,” Uwadia advised.
In addition, he said, registration for membership should commence from local chapters which is a bottom-up approach, thereby bringing chapters closer to the professionals and same time make all answerable to the national body.
Equally, NCS, Uwadia emphasized, should commence projection of its members to the political space, so as to enable the society influence policies that will impact the industry positively.
He cited for instance, the JAMBites and Post-UTME candidates, saying they should benefit from NCS services so as to catch them young for the society.
Sir Ademola Aladekomo, congratulated the present leadership of NCS for the courage to foster new path for growth.
He expressed drive for local content as priority for NCS, to enable it engage more with leading agencies like NITDA to protect indigenous companies who are corporate members.
