Parental escapes, dangerous to family responsibilities, says Fr. Ebido - ITREALMS

Lenten Sermon@ITREALMS ... making leadership SENSE with digital news!
Monday, Fourth Week of Lent B (March 1, 2021)

Your Daily BlessingMay God's grace guide you and your children on the right side of virtue. Amen.

Read Isaiah 65:17-21; John 4:43-54; pray Psalm 30[29].

NARRATION: Pope Francis says, “The family is the privileged school for learning generosity, sharing, responsibility, a school that teaches how to overcome a certain individualistic mind-set [selfishness] which has worked its way into our societies.”

We can’t have a better world or more caring people in our communities if our families are not made to understand its role in forming people of character.

Good/bad citizens and good/bad leaders are primarily products of families and the kind of institutions they give birth to.

When families break down, parents fail in their role, which impact upon the kind of children they raise, which in turn affects the larger society.

In the Gospel of today, we find “a royal official,” a father who is concerned about the health of his son. He travelled quite a distance to seek for help. That is responsibility.

In normally functional society, such actions are taken for granted. It is the role of a father (and/or mother) to take care of his/her son.

However, we are living at a time when fathers and/or mothers are not just abandoning their duties, but literally ‘escaping’ them completely!

Fathers have vanished from the house never to return; mothers have done exactly same! Some men are in the habit of just ‘fathering’ babies all over the place and abandoning them for their mothers to raise alone. This is gross irresponsibility! Who trains the children? It takes a father and a mother to raise ‘well-rounded’ and ‘responsible’ children. Nothing can replace these.

There is no greater joy for a parent than knowing he/she has raised children of character, honest and responsible children for God. The new heaven and the new earth are meant for such parents as these.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, we are living in difficult times. I admit that I have not always done what I should do in training my children. I have shown bad example sometimes! Please help me do better. Amen
