Apex telecommunications regulator in the country, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has tasked consumers making use of Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) to be conscious of cyber-security and warned against online fraudsters, reports ITREALMS
The Commission in an animation video available to ITREALMS asked Nigerians to beware of online fraudsters in any form.

This, the Commission noted often begins with telecom consumers not inputting their Bank Verification Number (BVN) into any website whose source they cannot verify.

The BVN gives each Bank customer a unique identity across the Nigerian banking industry that can be used for easy identification and verification at point of banking operations.

"Do not input your BVN into any website whose source you cannot verify," officials said.

A hacker, experts from NCC informed
ITREALMS, might be waiting at the other side to steal your information, and cautioned about giving mobile phones to strangers for any reason.

"They could easily steal sensitive information from your device," official said.

In addition, the inhouse experts at NCC advised telecom consumers to lock their Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) card with a Personal Identification Number (PIN).

They further explained that a locked SIM card cannot be used by anyone else, even if it is stolen, just as telecom consumers should not be ignorant by becoming more informed about their data security and online safety.
