The General Assembly of the Awba-Ofemili Development Union (ADU) in Awka-North Local Government of Anambra State, has elected a new set of National Executive Committee (NEC) led by Chief Tony Nwakaeze as the latest President-General (PG) of the town, reports ITREALMS.

He takes over from the former PG, Dr. Ike Oforkansi who has been in the saddle for the past three years.
Nwakaeze became the new PG following the peaceful general elections held at the Awba-Ofemili Civic Centre in the town on April 7, 2021 conducted by the Electoral Committee led by Sir Joesephat Okoye and monitored by officials from the office of Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters.
Some of the new NEC members include the Vice President, Mr. Patrick Anichebe; Secretary-General, Chukwuma Okafor; Assistant Secretary, Mr. Arinze Nwokeoti; Treasurer, Mr. Sylvester Nnaegbune; Financial Secretary, Mr. Celestine Nebeife; Auditor, Emeka Okafor; Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Amadife; and Legal Adviser, Barr. Immanuel Chidozie Sunday Akwobu, among others.
In his acceptance speech, Nwakaeze promised that they would work towards entrenching peace and tranquility in the town by ensuring that every case among the indigenes are settled amicably and any detainee regains freedom within the shortest possible time.
He expressed appreciation to all that worked for peaceful and successful emergence of his team, including His Royal Highest, Igwe Ernest Maduagwuna, Ofemili 1 of Awba-Ofemili, the erstwhile PG and the Electoral Committee led by Sir. Josephat Okoye and made up of Chief Tobias Chidebe, Chief Matthew Nwobu and Mr Obinna Moufunanya.
Speaking earlier, Igwe Maduagwuna had appealed for peaceful exercise and at the end of the elections which were largely unopposed for all candidates, blessed the new NEC.
The Igwe accompanied by his cabinet members including Chief Benard Nwanelo, urged PG Nwakaeze-led new exco to ensure that the community reputed for rice cultivation leverages the peaceful atmosphere this year to produce sufficient rice for export to other parts of the Awka-North local government, the state and south-east region among other crops.
Equally, the representatives of the state government in attendance commended Awba-Ofemili for the peaceful conduct of the general election.
