The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has advised telecommunications consumers on data the causes of depletion and possible preventions, reports ITREALMS.
According to them some cause of data depletion include inadequate knowledge of use of smart phones, laptops and tablets.
Data depletion, they said, could be caused by automatic update of smart phone operating systems (Android, iPhone, Blackberry).
“Non-closure of applications running on the phone, lack of knowledge on how to calculate bandwidth usage and cost per unit,” NCC experts said.
To prevent data depletion, NCC experts advised telecom consumers to limit their data usage in Android or Internet Operating System (IOS) settings.
In addition, consumers were advised to restrict App background data by using data compensation in Google Chrome.
Telecom consumers were also advised to update apps over Wireless Fidelity (WiFi) only.
“Limit your use of video and audio streaming activities, install and activate only the apps you need,” they said.
Further, they were counselled to use cache Google Maps for offline use, thereby optimising accounts sync settings.
