The Federal Government (FG) administration of General Muhammadu Buhari, has once again added to the heightened tempo in the country by ordering prosecution of persons using Twitter in the country, reports ITREALMS.
FG, ITREALMS recalls had on Friday suspended Twitter operations in the country and by Saturday morning ordered telcos to suspend subscribers access to the microblogging platform.
And before that access could die down, sources at the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, Saturday also, directed the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation to begin immediate prosecution of those who violate the Federal Government’s order suspending Twitter operations in Nigeria.
Confirming this, Malami’s spokesman, Umar Gwandu, in a press statement entitled, “Twitter ban: Malami orders prosecution of offenders” said the Federal Government had on Friday ordered all internet service providers to suspend Twitter. However, many Nigerians have been using the Virtual Private Networks to circumvent the ban.
