Only the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and National Bureau of Statistics are the sole authentic data source on telecommunications sector in the country, reports ITREALMS.
Giving this clarification, the Director Public Affairs at NCC, Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde, said in a recent statement available to ITREALMS that the two agencies of the Federal Government are authorities when it comes to data on the industry.
In a rebuttal to a media report that Nigeria recorded some 3,000,000 new subscribers in the first quarter of 2021, despite the suspension on the registration of new subscribers, NCC said that data did not original from either of the two agencies and cannot be substantiated.
“We wish to use this opportunity to clarify that the Nigerian Communications Commission and the National Bureau of Statistics are the only authoritative sources of authentic data on the Nigerian telecommunications sector,” he said.
Adinde also said that as a matter of corporate policy and consistent with international best practice, relevant data and statistics are transparently reported and regularly updated on the Commission’s website for free use by interested Stakeholders.
He also urged stakeholders to disregard any information on subscriber data different from those presented in the Commission’s website.
