The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has suspended its caretaker chairman in Gombe State, Mr. Sunday Congo, for congratulating Dr Isa Ibrahim-Pantami over his controversial professorship awarded by the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) recently, reports ITREALMS.
Isa Pantami is the current Minister of Communications and Digital Economy since the commencement of the General Muhammadu Buhari, retired, administration.
CAN also said Sunday Congo’s message did not reflect its position on the controversial minister now infamous for his extremist views.
The Christian Association of Nigeria in a suspension letter which came after its Caretaker Committee in Gombe State on September 6, wrote a congratulatory message which was signed by the Secretary, Senior Apostle John Adedigba to the Minister on his promotion to the rank of Professor of Cybersecurity at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri.
The promotion has been variously described as unprecedented latest scam in the Nigerian education sector, moreso since the Minister is not an academia presently.
CAN, in a letter signed by its General-Secretary and addressed to the Gombe Caretaker Committee of the association, said the congratulatory message to the minister is tantamount to a unilateral decision.
“Following the recent publications of your congratulatory message to the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, we write to inform you that your actions have generated a lot of concerns amongst members of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
ITREALMS gathered that based on this, Sunday Congo was immediate placed on suspension by CAN.
