The Proprietor and Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the St. Leo’s Hospital Enugu, Enugu State, Dr. Chike Akunyili, was on Tuesday evening gruesomely shot dead at Nkpor Junction in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, reports ITREALMS.

ITREALMS also gathered that his driver from Nsukka and Dr. Akunyili’s police orderly were also shot. The trio reportedly died of excessive bleeding after they got shot and medical emergency was not forthcoming.
The famous medical practitioner, ITREALMS equally gathered, was returning from a meeting of the University of Nigeria Nsukka Alumni Association (UNAA) in Onitsha, after receiving a post-humus award for his late wife, Prof. Dora Akunyili when they were accosted by yet to be identified gunmen at ever-busy Nkpor Junction also known as old Enugu-Onitsha road.
A video that went viral late Tuesday night, ITREALMS further gathered, had Dr Akunyili trying to sit-up in pool of his blood after he was shot in the face.
In addition, News Express quoted a reliable source as confirming that “He was killed along with his driver and police orderly.”
Late Dr. Akunyili, the report went further, attended the event held at Sharon Hall, All Saints Cathedral, Onitsha which was organised by UNAA, Onitsha branch.
ITREALMS gathered that until his untimely death, Dr. Chike Akunyili holds the traditional chieftaincy title of Agbalanze of Agulu in Anambra State.
