Ekiti signs MoU with NCC - ITREALMS

The Ekiti State government on Friday in Abuja signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), reports ITREALMS.

The signing, ITREALMS also reported was attended by the Secretary to Ekiti State Government, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji; Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi; Executive Vice Chairman/CEO, Nigeria Communications Commission, Engr. Prof Umar Danbatta and Executive Commissioner Stakeholder Management NCC, Mr. Adeleke Adewolu among others, was held at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
ITREALMS gathered that the MoU would strengthen the relationships between the state and NCC especially on infrastructure layouts in order to improve service deliveries.

Created on October 1, 1996, Ekiti State ITREALMS equally gathered is in Southwest region of Nigeria, and was declared a state same day alongside five other states in the country by the then military government under head of state, General Sani Abacha.

Ekiti was carved out of the territory of old Ondo State, and covers the former 12 local government areas that made up the Ekiti Zone of old Ondo State. On creation, it had 16 Local Government Areas (LGAs), having had an additional four carved out of the old ones. Ekiti State is one of the 36 states (inc. Federal Capital Territory (Nigeria)) that constitute Nigeria.

Dr. Fayemi is the current elected governor of Ekiti State.

ITREALMS on the other hand reports that NCC is the acclaimed independent regulatory authority for the telecommunications industry in Nigeria and was created under Decree number 75 by the [Federal Military Government of Nigeria] on 24 November 1992.

NCC was charged with the responsibility of regulating the supply of telecommunications services and facilities, promoting competition, and setting performance standards for telephone services in Nigeria. The Decree has since been abrogated and replaced with the Nigerian Communications Act (NCA) 2003. Umar Garba is the present head of (NCC) who assumed office since 2015.
