The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced accreditation of media houses and practitioners for the 2022 council poll in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, reports ITREALMS.
A public statement available to ITREALMS endorsed by the Secretary to the Commission, Mrs Rose Omoa Oriaran-Anthony, interested media organisations wishing to deploy journalists to cover the election could now apply via https://imap.inecnigeria.org.
The portal which opened on Monday, January 10, 2022, she said, would close on Saturday, February 5, this year.
Also she said, late submission shall not be entertained as the portal would automatically shut down on Saturday, February 5, 2022 by 5pm.
ITREALMS recalls that INEC was established by the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to among other things organize elections into various political offices in the country.
The functions of INEC is contained in Section 15, Part 1 of the Third Schedule of the 1999 Constitution (As Amended) and Section 2 of the Electoral Act 2010 (As Amended).
