Faulty NIN portal: NIMC promotes tokenization, banks on 'wild domain' – ITREALMS

Due to lingering technical hitch occasioned by non-availability of the National Identity Number (NIN) verification portal, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) is now promoting tokenization of verification via platforms, reports ITREALMS.

This is coming as the Commission has created ‘wild subdomain’ to save the day.

ITREALMS reports that wildcard subdomain allows to point all non-existing subdomains to a specific folder in any given account, thereby enabling your browser to show all the same content that has been preloaded to the folder set for the wildcard subdomain.

The technical hitch on NIN, ITREALMS gathered, has remained unresolved for over eight days and may not abate soon, hence the Commission came up with this alternative.

NIMC in a press statement available to ITREALMS, acknowledged that its NIN portal has been down due alleged maintenance by one of the commission’s network service providers.

This claim has pitched industry watchers against the commission as they had earlier claimed to have multiple layers of backups.

Meanwhile, NIMC said, “the public can make use of the alternative Tokenisation verification platform.”

ITREALMS recalls that temporarily unavailability of NIN verification portal affects mobile network service providers, the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), financial institutions, especially banks to name a few; to verify the National Identity Number of their customers before attending to them, in line with the Federal Government’s directive as part of measures to tame insecurity and illicit flow of funds.

“The commission apologises for any inconvenience this might cause our esteemed customers, as all hands are on deck to ensure speedy restoration,” part of the press statement read.
