Monday, Second Week of Lent C (March 14, 2022)
Your Daily Blessing: May the Lord multiply all you give in His name especially during this Lenten season. Amen!
Read Gospel (Luke 6:36-38).
We have many hawkers selling stuff at traffic jams. Sometimes I feel for them and try to patronize them. On this occasion I decided to buy a face mask. I was going for Mass in the Island. The young man insisted that the ‘white’ mask I want is double the price of the regular masks (black/green). I paid for a pack (set of five). I didn’t open it till two day after. When I opened it to use it, I found out that none of it was a real mask! It was made like a mask but it is made from a kind of tissue without anything to wear it! I was mad with anger. Here I was trying to help someone I felt needed help, but he was out to defraud me and any other unsuspecting victim! I don’t know what this world is turning into. I am sure some of you have similar stories. The devil laughs! His goal is to make us stop giving, to rip compassion from our heats because we no longer trust those who appear to need help. The saints acted differently, instead of being worldly wise, they gave without looking at the face to find out if the person is genuine or not. Jesus says, “Give to him that begs from you, and never turn away from him who wants to borrow from you” (Matt 5:42). Why? Because giving is not just about the receiver, it is more beneficial to the giver!
The Gospel today (Lk 6:36-38) makes it clearer: “give and gifts will be given to you: a full measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For the measure you give is the measure you get back.” Some ‘smart’ ones NEVER give without knowing they have been DENIED gifts (blessings) too. What these blessing are, they will get to know later with deep regrets. With Daniel (9:4-10) we pray God to forgive us our many sins.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, I have always seen giving as helping others, but never really seen it clearly as blessing myself. Thank you for the grace of generosity you have given me. Please help me to grow in this grace especially in times of doubt when giving is difficult. Blessing: May the Lord multiply all you give in his name especially during this Lenten season.
