NCS’ Artificial Intelligence summit to debut in Nasarawa - ITREALMS

The Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) has advanced plans to host its first-ever Artificial Intelligence Summit in Lafia, Nasarawa State, reports ITREALMS.

Disclosing this to ITREALMS on Tuesday at the society secretariat, NCS President, Prof. Adesina Sodiya said they are taking the debut to Nasarawa due to the open-arm of the state government in welcoming their idea.

This is coming as the vice president, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osibajo, would be leading the Federal Government delegation and is expected to give a keynote as well as declare the summit open.

The NCS’ Artificial Intelligence summit, he said would hold for three days between Wednesday, March 23 and Friday 25 in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

The summit to be shared by Alhaji Aluko Dangote, he said, would have the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami and his Science and Technology counterpart, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu as special guests alongside the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta and Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Mr. Inuwa Kashifu.

The executive governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Engr. Sule Abdulahi, would be chief host.

Prof. Sodiya accompanied by his executive members including the Deputy President, Dr. Muhammad Sirajo Aliyu, said that artificial intelligence involves the development of digital systems and technologies that mimic human capabilities and capacities in problem-solving and decision-making, has become a prime technology today.

“Artificial intelligence is currently presenting tremendous opportunities, leading to breakthroughs in all spheres of live. Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming every segment of global economy,” he said.



NCS, he said, expects that AI will profoundly reshape the social and economic landscape of the nation, spark innovations and foster creative solutions in fields such as agriculture, medicine, transportation, finance, education but a few.

“Individuals, corporate organisations and governments must embrace AI opportunities for competitive advantage and rapid national development,” NCS president said.

As said by him, “AI has new set of tools that are currently revolutionising the whole world. Nigeria needs to give the required attention to AI for effective transformation to digital economy and efficient business operations.”

He stressed that one of the major goals of summit by NCS is to promote all areas of IT and lead AI development in Nigeria. Other members of executive at the press conference included Chairman, Ethics and Disciplinary Committee, Dr. Charles Onyeukwu; chairperson, Audit Committee, Mrs. Shulammite Ayobami Ilebiyi; chairman, Credentials Committee, Professor Oludele Awodele; Ex-Officio, South East Zone, Dr. Stanley Adiele Okolie; Chairperson, Education and Manpower Development Committee, Dr. Florence Babalola as well as the President, Nigerian IT Professionals in Civil Service (NITPCS), Mr. Segun Omotayo Olorunyomi and Executive Secretary at NCS, Mr. Iyiola Ayoola.
