The Chairman, Lagos State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Mr. Adeleye Ajayi has called for the full implementation of the AfCFTA that is beneficial to all and sundry, especially the workers, reports ITREALMS.
Ajayi made this call in his opening speech at a one –day workshop on Challenges of African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) on Nigeria businesses at Lagos Airport on Tuesday.
As said by him, successful implementation of AfCFTA) will be key, including careful monitoring of impacts on all workers; women and men, skilled and unskilled - across all countries and sectors, ensuring the agreement’s full benefit.
As the global economy is in turmoil due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Ajayi noted that creation of the vast AfCFTA regional market has become imperative as a major opportunity to help African countries diversify their exports, accelerate growth, and attract foreign direct investment.
He also said that AFCFTA has the potential to increase employment opportunities and incomes, helping to expand opportunities for all Africans.
“Creating a single, continent-wide market for goods and services, business and investment would reshape African economies. The implementation of AfCFTA would be a huge step forward for Africa, demonstrating to the world that Africa is emerging as a leader on the global trade agenda,” he said.
