Lagosians have been urged to make use of various Information and Communications Technology (ICT) impetus introduced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in order to exercise their franchise in the forthcoming 2023 general elections, reports ITREALMS.
Hon. Afinni emphasized the need for the people to get their PVCs so as to enable them exercise their civic rights and vote for candidate of their choice in 2023.
"We call on everyone once again; family members, friends, colleagues, neighbours, royal fathers, religious leaders, community leaders, institutions, students, trade unions, youths, market men and women to ensure the success of the coming elections by obtaining their PVCs" he said.
Also, Hon. Afinni who recently donated to his Constituency some electronic equipment to aid in pre-registration exercise in various communities within the Constituency likewise trained the teeming youths in computer literacy to get them involved in IT jobs.
"We have tried a lot in the aspects of using technology as everything is about technology now with the PVC, the pre-registration and so on, we have actually donated equipment that will be used in various community within the Constituency for that and we have trained youths on computer literacy to get them involved in IT jobs," he said.
Equally speaking at the townhall meeting, the INEC, Electoral Officer, Lagos Island, Onyeokoro Chinwe noted that the Commission in her bid to ensure proper registration of eligible people, has introduced Bi-modal Voter Authentication System (BVAS), which facilitates human recognition through biometric verification mechanism using fingerprints and facial recognition to replaced the Smart Card Readers which only enables human recognition using fingerprint.
"This device is also equipped to scan the result of poll at the polling unit on form EC8A and send to the INEC Result Viewing (IREV) portal real time to further enhance the transparency of elections," she said.
Onyeokoro urged all stakeholders to continue to mobilise the eligible Lagosians whom are yet to collect their PVCs to take advantage of the opportunity of the ongoing collection of PVCs at the INEC Local Government Areas (LGA) offices where they registered.

"This will no doubt increase PVC collection rate and avoid voter apathy that have characterized past elections in the state, where 1,156,590 out of 6,570,291 registered voters (17.6%) participated during the last general elections," she said.
Similarly, ITREALMS gathered that some 104,405 out of 1,343,448 registered voters (7.8%) participated in the 2020 Lagos East Senatorial District Bye-election.
In addition, ITREALMS gathered that over 20 million PVCs remain uncollected across the nation in which 1 million unclaimed PVCs are from Lagos State.
It would be recalled that Continuous voter's registration (CVR) exercise started in the first quarter of 2021 through the online platform http://cvr.inecnigeria.org or http://cvr.inec.gov.ng in June last year.
The TownHall meeting, ITREALMS recalled is an annual Lagos State House of Assembly initiatives to liaise with the various stakeholders within their Constituencies. This year's theme is "2023 General Election: The Imperatives of Permanent Voters'
