The Chief Executive Officer of Ipaja, Lagos-based Mignontreats, Ogundimu Omolola, spoke to ITREALMS' GBEMI OMOTOSO and says she banks on her creativity.
How did you get your brand name?
How did you get into the cake industry?
My passion led me into pastries and cake making.
How would you describe yourself as a person and as a baker?
I would say I'm a responsible, hardworking with a good communication skills and a dependable person. Further, as a baker, I'm creative and a detailed-oriented person.
How many years have you been in the industry?
Basically, I've been practicing for 12 years but officially, 8 years.
If given opportunity to lead in the baking industry, what would be your master plan?
Proper and detailed training, a regulatory body for bakers, periodic health and safety trainings.
How has your passion for pastries and cakes paid off?
Wow, I must say God has been faithful to me.
What is your best tool as a baker?
My small pallete knife.
What keeps you going on in the industry?
My passion and zeal to make others happy with my creativity keeps me abreast in the baking Industry.
How would you describe the Industry?
Hmmm..... the industry is indeed a large one with blessed people who put in their strengths, passion and creativity in order to make other people smile.
Have you had any experience in the corporate world?
Sure! I'm a chemist and I have worked few years after graduating before settling as a baker.
Considering long distances, how do you handle delivery?
I either do the delivery or use a dispatch rider or Uber while I ensure a proper packaging of the cake.
How do you get your clients?
Mostly my clients are from referrals because I ain't more of a social media type .
Yes, I have been able to maintain them through constant goodwill messages and a little discount.
Any difficult moment with a customer?
Sure! especially when they don't want to pay and then keep choosing expensive cakes.
Your memorable day?
My first wedding cake, because then, I was still in school.
What baking skills do you intend to improve?
Dessert cakes.
Where do you see your baking career in five years?
Hmmn... by God's grace, having a retail outlet of my own with capable workers.
How do you prioritize, plan your time when baking?
I have a roaster which I adhered strictly to; this makes it easier for me because I'm a home baker.
Your hobbies?
Cooking majorly and meeting new people.
Your likes and dislikes?
I likes honesty trust, caring and understanding people as well as good vibes. However, I dislikes dishonesty, bad communication and intimidation.
