The Former Emir of Kano, and former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Muhammadu Sanusi has urged Nigerians to vote beyond ‘emilokan’ in 2023 general elections.
He also Nigeria in Lagos to rather vote for a leader that will transform the country especially in education, healthcare and economy come.
Sanusi lamented that Nigeria is at the edge of collapsing because of the inability of the leaders to transform the country, said education, healthcare services and economy are the foundation of development that any country that failed to develop in these areas will drastically fail woefully.
Speaking in Lagos, at the August Event 2022 organised the board and management of Chief Moses Adekoyejo Majekodunmi (MAM), Foundation in collaboration with St. Nicolas Hospital to mark 10 years memorial lecture and legacy of Chief Moses Adekoyejo Majekodunmi, entitled "Nigeria healthcare system: the past, present and the future," was held at Muson Centre Onikan, Lagos.
Sanusi who was the Chairman of the occasion lamented that many healthcare workers are leaving the country because of government inability to provide enabling environment in order for healthcare service to excel.
“Time has gone when Nigerians would be voting for any candidate because of part, rather let us ask the presidential candidates questions and the one with best ideas will be voted for because Nigeria is at the edge of collapse.”
He said it is very expensive to train healthcare professionals therefore to stop them from traveling outside the country requires huge amount of money.

Chief Medical Director (CMD), of Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Prof. Chris Bode who represented the Minster of Health Dr. Osagie Ehanire, commended the organizers of the event, and noted that Chief Majekodunmi, was a great man who impacted in the life of ordinary Nigerians especially in area of primary healthcare delivery.
He pointed out that late Chief Majekodunmi, was in the forefront of establishing LUTH hospital and because of this the hospital always remember him because he was worth of emulation.
Keynote speaker at the event Prof. Adesegun Abudu, said that Nigeria primary healthcare at this time is very poor because it is too fare from where it ought to be.
He said is sad because the current leadership of the country has failed to maintain level of healthcare system we saw in the 60s and 70s, ever since then healthcare system has reduced in term of financing and poor treatment.
He said: “We need to get it right this time because healthcare is for everybody because you never know when you will need it, therefore it is very important that we improve it”.
Abudu noted that the area he will like healthcare system to improve is in area of training the health workers and retain them in this country. “One of the ways to retain them is to give them professional
and personal satisfactions because many Nigerian health workers who travel abroad do so out of necessity therefore we can stop it by given satisfactory also give the opportunity to development. He said Nigeria can stop them from travelling abroad by providing better healthcare infrastructure and look forward in harnessing the values of brain drain to convert it to brain gain.
