The Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate for the forthcoming general elections, Mr. Peter Obi will leverage Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in governance when elected into office in 2023, reports ITREALMS.
This, he also said, would be the fulcrum of his government to boost the transformation of the nation’s consumption to production.
ITREALMS gathered that STEM offers an approach to learning and development that integrates the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Through STEM, for instance, students develop key skills including problem solving, creativity, critical analysis, teamwork, independent thinking, initiative, communication, and digital literacy among others.
According to him, Nigeria is not productive due to poor leadership “which is why our leadership fails.”
Obi urged Nigerians to ensure that 2023 election, especially at the Presidential poll, should not be about religion, ethnic or tribe, but competence to deliver on the job roles, should be upper most in the minds of Nigerians to be able to rescue the country for the future of the youths and better society.
The former governor of Anambra equally said that if elected, he would not be a president reputed for giving excuses but actions.
“… Job of a leader is not excuses but providing solutions,” he said.
ITREALMS recalls that Mr. Peter Gregory Obi was born 19 July 1961 in Onitsha, Anambra State, Nigeria. A successful businessman and politician who served as governor of Anambra from March to November 2006, February to May 2007, and from June 2007 to March 2014; Obi in May 2022, became the Labour Party candidate for President for the 2023 presidential election, after defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party.
Obi's presidential campaign has been described as populist and has been noted for its support among many young Nigerians, who have been nicknamed "Obi-dients".
Noteworthy as gathered by ITREALMS was that Obi contested for governorship in 2003 as a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), but his main opponent was unlawfully declared victor.
The aforementioned was followed by three years of legal battles, which eventually saw Obi being declared winner in 2006 and assumed office in March 2006. He was impeached in November the same year, but his impeachment was overturned and he returned to office in February the next year.
Further, ITREALMS gathered that Obi was removed during the 2007 Anambra State gubernatorial election, and the judiciary again intervened, ruling that he should be allowed to complete a full four-year term. In 2010, he won re-election to a second term.
Obi's two terms were marked by improvements in state finances, education, and healthcare.
