The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele has bowed to pressure as he took avalanche of complaints to his principal, the Nigeria’s president, General Muhammadu Buhari, retired at his residence on Sunday in Daura, Katsina State to obtain approval for extension for swapping of old Naira notes, reports ITREALMS. Speaking after a closed-door meeting with Buhari, ITREALMS gathered from close sources to CBN that Emefiele revealed the new deadline is now February 10, 2023.
Nigerians, he said, who were yet to change their Naira notes from the old to new ones, ”now have an opportunity to do so.”
Emefiele, equally advised Nigerians to make good use of this extension of deadline as there is no possibility of further extension.
ITREALMS recalled that earlier, CBN fixed Tuesday, January 31, as the deadline for swapping old Naira notes until the latest proclamation on Sunday.
